What is a Prepaid Card?

A prepaid card looks just like a credit or debit card, but does not have a line of credit. You can only spend the amount you have previously loaded onto your card. Each time you use the card to purchase something or withdraw cash at an ATM, the purchase / withdrawal amount is deducted from the available balance.

What are the benefits?

You can purchase Euros at highly competitive rates, once loaded any fluctuations in the exchange rate will not affect your balance. The card can be loaded online making it simple and convenient to use. The card is chip and PIN enabled for your security.

What can I use the Brittany Ferries MasterCard Prepaid Euro Card for?

You can use the card to buy goods or services anywhere that displays the MasterCard Acceptance Mark. There is no charge for purchasing goods within the Euro zone, but if you use it outside the Euro zone there is a cross currency fee of 2.75%. You can also withdraw cash from most ATMs for a fee of €1.50 per withdrawal.

Unfortunately the Brittany Ferries Euro Card cannot be used in unattended fuel pumps, or at toll booths. The reason for this is that an online pre-authorisation of funds is needed which isn't carried out at these locations.

Can my card be used for internet purchases?

You can use the card to make internet purchases wherever you see the MasterCard Acceptance Mark.

When will I receive my card?

We will issue your card within 3-5 working days of receiving your application.

What do I do when I receive my card?

Sign the back of your card, log on and use the 'Activate' button on the 'cards' tab under 'Your Account', entering the full card number and the date of birth of the card holder. Once activated, call +44 (0) 1244 770 512 to get your PIN. Your card will then be ready to use.

How do I load my card?

Simply top your card up online free of charge. Go to http://eurocard.brittany-ferries.co.uk and click on the 'Top up an existing card' section. The maximum amount you can load onto your card is €6,250, and the minimum you can load is €10. You should be able to use your funds within a few hours of loading them onto your card.

How much does the card cost?

There is a card issue fee of £6.00. However, if the initial load amount is for €300 or more the card issue fee is waived.

What are the fees for using my card?

We do not charge for purchases made in the Euro zone, and there is no monthly management fee. There is a €1.50 fee to withdraw cash in the UK or abroad.

What happens when my card expires?

If you have loaded the card within the last twelve months before expiry you will be issued with a new card free of charge. This renewal will run for two years and your balance will be moved to your new card.

I've lost my card / I think my card's been stolen. What should I do?

If you have lost your card you should contact us immediately on our lost and stolen helpline on +44 (0) 1753 778 645, or log on to the website and mark your card as Lost & stolen. We will cancel your card.

You should treat your Currency Card like cash. If it is lost or stolen, you may lose some or all of your money on your Currency Card, in the same way as if you lost cash in your wallet or purse. As a result, you must keep your Currency Card safe and not let anyone else use it. If you are issued with a PIN, you should memorise the PIN. You must keep your PIN secret at all times. You should not reveal your PIN to anyone. You can change your PIN to something more memorable at most ATM machines by following the on screen instructions.
